Employers are reminded of changes to National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) coming into effect in April 2020.
To be eligible for the NMW a person must be at least school leaving age. They must be aged 25 to get the NLW (the NMW will still apply to workers aged 24 and under). It is important for employers to comply with these requirements because it is against the law for employers to pay workers less than the NMW or NLW, or to falsify payment records. The maximum fine for non-payment is £20,000 per worker. Employers who do not pay can be banned from being a company director for up to 15 years.
The rates change every April and are:
